Library Offers Technology Petting Zoo & Laptop Checkout

Picture of a Table Filled With Techology, Such as Phones and TabletsTimes are changing at the Glen Ellyn Public Library. Patrons will soon be able to check out laptops for in-library use, as well as visit our new Technology Petting Zoo on the second floor of the library.

For some time now, teenaged library visitors have been able to temporarily exchange their school ID for a few hours of library laptop and WIFI time. This service was so popular that the library invested in a set of laptops for adult patrons as well. With a Glen Ellyn Library card in good standing, patrons may visit the library’s Reference Desk and check out a laptop for up to 3.5 hours. This mobile computer lab will also allow the Glen Ellyn Library the flexibility to offer computer classes in larger meeting and study rooms. Stop by the library beginning November 25 to try out this new service.

Also opening November 25 is the library’s Technology Petting Zoo. The zoo will include over half a dozen digital devices, including multiple eReaders, mp3 players, and more. Library staff will be trained to help you navigate each device in the petting zoo. No question is too easy – the library is here to help! Come hold various digital devices in your hands, try out how each one works, and learn to download and transfer eBooks and audiobooks using the library’s free digital download service. Visiting our petting zoo is great for the technology novice or those who are deciding whether to buy their loved ones a high-tech gift for the holidays.
