If you’ve visited the library recently, you’ll have noticed a few things have changed on our second floor. Don’t worry, we’re not getting rid of our books! We still have over 180,000 “hard” (non-digital) items, and we have expanded or digital collection to over 25,000 titles in response to patron requests. To make room for more seating and community space, we weeded out-of-date and unused books from the nonfiction collection. Nonfiction books at GEPL are now condensed to the north side of the second floor of the library. Doing this has made room for new CD & DVD shelving, which will be located on the south side of the second floor. Large print materials will be available next to the second floor elevator, and new books will be better displayed directly left of the second floor stairs between the elevator and stairs.
For the moment, our second floor looks something like this:
If you need to find something on our second floor this week, ask a staff member for help. If you’re in a rush, here’s a run-down of where to look for some items in transition. Thank you all for your patience as we work to improve the library!
- Magazine boxes are all over the second floor–ask at the desk for a particular title location
- New Books are in some of the shelving that used to house the magazine boxes
- Entertainment DVDs are behind the HotPicks shelving at the top of the stairs
- Large Print is now in its new location next to the second floor elevators
