New Reading Level System to Help Kids Read!

Parents and students may have heard about the Fountas and Pinnell reading level system used in Glen Ellyn schools. Fountas and Pinnell is a text reading system with levels ranging from A – Z. The level is based on vocabulary, word count, word and sentence difficulty, and illustration support. Our library’s Early Reader section features a chart correlating our reading level sticker system with Lexile, Fountas and Pinnell, and the reader’s grade level.

Recently, we created a selection of books from the A, B, and C levels of the Fountas and Pinnell system. These are the “emergent” and “early reader” levels below 100 on the Lexile range. These books will be on display in the library’s Early Reader section. These books are labeled “A”, “B,” and “C”, and their label color relates to the sticker system used with the rest of the Early Readers, so that your reader will always know exactly what books to read next.
