New Smart Starts Program Builds Young Brains

Little Boy Working on Letter PuzzleLast Tuesday, the Youth Department hosted its very first Smart Starts session, which turned out to be an overwhelming success. Children made picture frames decorated with the letters of their names, as well as holiday stickers, gems, and pompoms. Other activities included mess-free “finger painting” using pudding sealed in a plastic bag, alphabet puzzles, and activity sheets to practice writing and reorganizing.

Smart Starts provides a hands-on, interactive environment where parent’s help their child develop early reading, writing, and math skills through play. Drop by the Youth Department two Monday afternoons per month between 2:30pm and 4:30pm for fun activities that build young brains. The program is designed for children ages 3 to 8 with an adult.

The next session of Smart Starts is December 17. During Smart Starts: Puzzle Power, children will piece gather various puzzles, play games, and create an “I Spy” craft.
