Illinois Secretary of State and State Librarian Jesse White will visit the Glen Ellyn Public Library at 2pm on Monday, January 13 to present Library Director Dawn Bussey and the Library Board of Trustees with the Illinois Public Library Construction Act Grant.
The Public Library Construction Act Grant provides state matching funding to support design and new construction, remodeling, renovation or maintenance of public libraries in Illinois.
The Glen Ellyn Public Library became eligible for the grant after an April 18, 2013 rainstorm that flooded the library’s subbasement in five feet of water and damaged the building’s major mechanical systems. The Library sustained over $350,000 in flood damages and has undergone over $200,000 in flood preventative measures.
The Public Library Construction Act Grant has been allocated toward flood repairs and the installation of flood preventative measures. Illinois has allocated state aid to this project in the amount of $157,469.55.
“We welcome this opportunity to extend our sincere appreciation of the assistance provided by both the State Library and the Secretary of State Jesse White in procuring this grant,” says Director Bussey.
The grant presentation will occur on the Glen Ellyn Public Library’s second floor and is open to the public.
