On April 2, 1917 President Woodrow Wilson stated: ÂThe world must be safe for democracy.Â In four days the United States would enter World War I. Historian Jim Gibbons will take you through the first of two catastrophic wars in our nationÂs history, World War I, which started on July 28, 1914. Gibbons will highlight the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, the sinking of the Lusitania, the rise of Adolph Hilter, and new weapons for war such as the airplane, the submarine, the aircraft carrier, and the tank.

August 1st is the National Teen Lock-In. Kids from across the country are flocking to their library after-hours and having fun! Middle schoolers will rule the youth department, while high schoolers will have control of the second floor. Pizza will be provided, and activities will include Nerf wars, virtual author visits, and a glow in the dark party!
