Youth Department  |  Adult Department


Position: Youth Programming Associate
FT/PT: Part Time
Hours: 18 hours per week, including evening and weekends
Salary: Starting at $14.74 per hour

Position Description: We are looking for a team oriented, customer service focused individual to join our dynamic, busy—and sometimes even noisy!—Youth Department. We are in the middle of an exciting remodel project in the Youth area, so the ideal candidate must be both flexible and enthusiastic. If you have a special interest in STEAM programming, this library is for you!

Candidates for this position will enjoy and work well with children of all ages and their adult caregivers. Duties will include reference, readers’ advisory, storytime, outreach, and special projects as needed. In addition, candidates need to be comfortable using and explaining technology, such as mobile devices, e-readers, and tablets, as they relate to library services.

Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree or its demonstrated equivalent. One year successful work experience interacting with children. Must have an in-depth knowledge of and interest in children’s literature. Must also have excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills, as well as attention to detail. Students working towards an MLIS degree are strongly encouraged to apply. Evening and weekend hours will be required.

Hours: Averaging 10 hours per week. Schedule will be one evening per week and alternating Saturdays and Sundays. Additional fill-in hours as needed may be

Job Description: The Glen Ellyn Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic, motivated person with a passion for warm and friendly customer service. Duties include reference and readers’ advisory service using a variety of print and digital resources; assisting our members with ebook, internet, computer, and media lab tasks. Candidates should have an appreciation for the printed word and also embrace technological innovation. A great sense of humor is also a plus!

Requirements: MLS from an ALA accredited program preferred, however, MLS or LTA students currently enrolled who have completed at least half of the required coursework are welcome to apply. Include your schedule availability in your cover letter. Please email resume and cover letter.
