Book Sorting

The Friends of the Glen Ellyn Public Library operate a used book sale area in the library basement and hold public sales approximately every other month. To prepare for these sales, the Friends have “book sorts” about once a week (Online calendar coming soon). At the sorting sessions, volunteers look through the donated items we’ve recently received and decide if and where they should be shelved. Occasionally we also use this time to organize and prepare for upcoming sales.

Sorts are a great opportunity to socialize, chat about books and help your library. You don’t need to RSVP–just come when you can and stay as long as you like. Simply check in with the librarians at the circulation desk and you will be directed down to the basement.

The Friends also need volunteers to work at book sales. Shifts are usually about two hours long and volunteer duties include cashiering, stocking bookshelves and assisting customers. Working at a sale requires you to sign up ahead of time. If you would like to be added to the book sale volunteer list or have any questions relating to book sales, please email Kathy Lawson at
