Youth Department Librarian  |  Youth Associate (2 positions)

Youth Department Librarian

Full Time/Part Time: Part Time
Hours: 20 hours per week, including evening and weekend hours
Salary: Starting salary $19.21/hr, DOQ

Position Description: Are you an enthusiastic and customer-service oriented librarian with a passion for encouraging curiosity and creativity through library programs and experiences? Do you possess strong interpersonal skills and enjoy working with children of all ages and their caregivers? Are you a team player who is looking for a challenging and collaborative work environment? If so, the Youth Department at the Glen Ellyn Public Library is for you!

Primary duties and responsibilities of this position include working with the public at the Youth Department desk, collection development, and assisting with youth programming and outreach.

Requirements: Must have an MLS from an ALA-accredited library school; must have at least one year of professional experience in a library setting; must have at least one year of experience working with children in a library setting or related field. Applicants with Spanish speaking skills are strongly encouraged to apply.

Youth Associate (2 positions)

Full Time/Part Time: Part Time
Hours: 18 hours per week, including evening and weekends
Salary: Starting at $14.74 per hour

Position Description: We are looking for a team oriented, customer service focused individual to join our dynamic, busy — and sometimes even noisy! — newly remodeled Youth Department. If you have a special interest in STEAM programming, this library is for you!

Candidates for this position will enjoy and work well with children of all ages and their adult caregivers. Duties will include reference, readers’ advisory, storytime, outreach, and special projects as needed. In addition, candidates need to be comfortable using and explaining technology, such as mobile devices, e-readers, and tablets, as they relate to library services.

Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree or its demonstrated equivalent. One year successful work experience interacting with children. Must have an in-depth knowledge of and interest in children’s literature. Must also have excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills, as well as attention to detail. Applicants with Spanish speaking skills are strongly encouraged to apply, as are students working towards an MLIS degree are strongly encouraged to apply. Evening and weekend hours will be required.
