Position: Youth Associate, Youth Department
FT/PT: Part Time
Hours: 28 hours per week, including morning and afternoon weekday hours and every other Sunday
Salary: Starting salary $14.74 per hour. Benefits include pro-rated holiday and vacation pay, plus participation in IMRF
Position Description: We are looking for an enthusiastic, team oriented, customer service focused individual to join our dynamic, busy — and sometimes even noisy! — Youth Department. In our brand new, recently renovated Youth Department space, you will have the opportunity to lead storytimes and programs, as well as participate in outreach opportunities and work the desk to serve families. If you have a special interest in early childhood and STEAM program planning, this library is for you!
Candidates for this position will enjoy and work well with children of all ages and their adult caregivers. Duties will include reference, readers’ advisory, storytime and other programming, outreach, and special projects as needed. In addition, candidates need to be comfortable using technology and explaining mobile devices, such as e-readers, tablets, etc. as they relate to library services.
Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree or its demonstrated equivalent. One year successful work experience in a public contact position interacting with children. Must have an in-depth knowledge of and interest in youth literature. Must also have excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills, as well as computer skills. Students working towards an MLIS degree are strongly encouraged to apply. Weekend hours will be required.
