The Glen Ellyn Library Foundation was established in 1998 to build an endowment that will ensure that future residents of Glen Ellyn enjoy high quality library service in an attractive, state-of -the-art facility. The Foundation is an independent, non-profit, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization. It is governed by a volunteer board of directors made up of community members and non-voting representatives of the Friends of the Library, the Library Board of Trustees and the Library administration.
How is the Foundation different from the Friends of the Library?
Since 1922 the Friends of the Library have been providing support to the Library. Their annual fundraising letter raises money to supplement the book budget, ensuring that Library users have access to current, popular materials. The Friends' fundraising is done on a grass-roots basis. Gifts of any size are appropriate, and anyone can make a gift to show appreciation and support for the Library. All of the money (less mailing expenses) is passed on to the Library on an annual basis for current needs. The Friends do not maintain an endowment fund. In addition to fundraising, the Friends also have members who assist with other Library projects.
