Veterans History Project

What is it?
The mission of the Veterans History Project is to collect and archive the personal recollections of U.S. wartime veterans to honor their service and share their stories with current and future generations. Begun in 2000, the Veterans History Project is a project of the Library of Congress aimed at collecting oral history interviews, memoirs, letters, diaries, photographs, and other original materials from veterans of World War I and II, and the Korean, Vietnam, and Persian Gulf Wars and the Afghanistan and Iraq conflicts.

How can I participate?
The Glen Ellyn Public Library has an ongoing mission to interview veterans for this project. If you would like to participate, please complete the information packet available at the Glen Ellyn Public Library. Interviews will be videotaped at the library at a time convenient to you. You will receive a copy of the video. Coming Soon - You will be available to find the interview online on the library’s website and as part of the VHP on the Library of Congress website.

I’m interested, what do I do next?
Come to the Glen Ellyn Public Library to pick up an information packet to complete. There are two short forms that will ask for your name, address, etc. as well as a brief outline of your war experiences. We can also mail these to you if you prefer. After you complete these forms, please return them to the Glen Ellyn Public Library and you will be contacted to schedule your interview.
