Teen Art Contest Results
By: Joshua O'Shea, Young Adult Librarian
This year’s Teen Art Contest was wonderful, and we want to thank everyone who came out. It was a snowy, blowy day—although any weather after the polar vortex would have felt tropical. Our show coincided with a reception for the February Artist of the Month, the Seagrave Family, which featured artists from a few generations. The Teen Art Contest highlighted many artists of high school age from Glenbard West and some from around Glen Ellyn in general. I worked closely with Glenbard West art teachers Mary Cann and Colleen Doyle to refine the process this year. A special thanks to Mary Cann for reaching out to parents. Library staff even got to test out some new audio equipment, which was good fun. About 70 people showed up to enjoy the artwork and socialize.
The library hosts this competition yearly. Our judges, Joe Eddy Brown and Jan P. Voogd, have judged many similar shows around Glen Ellyn, Naperville, and Chicago. As artists themselves, they love to see what the young creatives are up to.
All submissions will be displayed on the 2nd floor throughout March! Click here to view the winning artwork. Printed photos of these pieces will also go in the High School Room. Artists should contact Josh O’Shea at joshea followed by @gepl.org for prize pickup by April 1. Thank you, everyone!
