Wizards Unite!

It’s finally here! I got the buzz alert. Wizards Unite is available!

In 2016, Pokémon GO was a huge deal. It opened the door for augmented reality (AR) to be commonly used and also brought AR into mainstream vocabulary.

Augmented reality is similar to virtual reality (VR), but with one main difference. VR puts you into a fake environment, while AR adds fake things to a real environment.

Since Pokémon GO’s successful debut, the app has decreased in popularity but still has an avid following. Other games have followed in its wake: Jurassic World Alive boasts a similar AR catching feature – only with dinosaurs, of course. Minecraft Earth ‘s beta promises to take AR gaming to the next level.

Now, Wizards Unite is a Harry Potter-themed game by the creators of Pokémon GO, and I signed on to the mailing list a few years ago when it was originally announced.

Well, like I said, it’s finally here! I saw the notification and immediately logged on. It’s an interesting premise, featuring grown-up versions of the books’ characters. I haven’t gotten far, but it has the same structure as Pokémon GO and Ingress, another game by the same developer.

As a bonus, it’s free. You should download the app! Click here for Android and click here for iOS .

If you’re hooked on AR and VR, don’t forget to Check the Library – we have multiple options for you to explore virtual worlds, including an Oculus Rift, Playstation VR, and lots of AR toys. Just ask your favorite library staff member.

See you soon, wizards!
