Check Out Local Authors at GEPL

Here at the Glen Ellyn Public Library, we are proud to celebrate our local authors!

The Emerging Authors collection on the 2nd floor highlights authors who either live in the Chicago Metropolitan area or whose book takes place here. This donation-based collection helps authors, many of whom are self-published, promote their books and reach a wider audience.

Are you a local author interested in distributing your book(s) to gain wider readership? Consider donating your book to the Emerging Authors collection. Please review our guidelines here. If you think your book is a good fit, you can mail it to:

Glen Ellyn Public Library

Attn: Readers’ Advisory Librarian

400 Duane Street

Glen Ellyn, IL 60137

Self-published authors can also check out inkie.org , which provides online creation and publishing toolsThe Pressbooks software enables writers to convert manuscripts into a variety of ebook and print formats.

Another great resource is Biblioboard. Browse the Indie Illinois collection to discover ebooks by Illinois authors.

If you’re looking for something new to read, there are many great options to choose from. Here are a few recommendations:

The Means That Make Us Strangers by Christine Kindberg: After fourteen years in rural Ethiopia, 1964 finds sixteen-year-old Adelaide and her family moving back to Greenville, South Carolina, where Adelaide finds that friendships and thoughts of her own future as well as larger social issues add to life’s complexity. Author Christine Kindberg lives in the Chicago area.

The Love Anthology by The Writing Journey: Love doesn’t happen in just a few lines on a Valentine card. It can touch the heart when least expected. Strangers, sisters, mothers and children, friends, and lovers grace these pages in ways as old as love itself and as new as a first embrace. This collection is published by local writing group The Writing Journey.

I’m Very Ferris by Tess Kossow: Told from a child’s point of view, I’m Very Ferris gently explains infertility through in vitro fertilization and celebrates the miracle of Ferris’ birth in a beautifully illustrated rhyming book. Author Tess Kossow lives in the Chicago suburbs.
