Grab ‘n Go Library Services

Visitors can enter the building for 30 minutes to select materials, use the copier and scanner, and use the self-checkout machines.

When they enter the library, visitors will be asked to

  • Complete a health screening
  • Wear a face covering
  • Maintain a safe social distance of six feet from others while in the library

To help ensure visitors’ safety,

  • Staff will be sanitizing frequently touched surfaces
  • All chairs, tables, and toys have been removed from public areas
  • The number of visitors will be limited to help ensure safe social distancing
  • Visitors with questions are encouraged to call 331-251-8609 for assistance, as staff will not be available to provide this service

Two computers with printers will also be accessible just outside the library entrance.

Grab ‘n Go Library Services does not include holds, so please continue to use the drive-up window if you have been notified that you have items ready for pickup.

Drive-Up Window

The drive-up window is open for members who have been notified that their items are ready to be picked up only.

Virtual Meeting Rooms

GEPL cardholders who need to gather a group that can’t meet in person are invited to use our Virtual Meeting Rooms. Virtual Meeting Rooms are provided through Zoom and allow groups of up to 100 people to see and hear each other on a computer or mobile device.

Virtual Meeting Room users must agree to our Virtual Meeting Rooms policy. Virtual meetings include a GEPL Concierge who will start and sit in on the meeting, provide technical assistance, facilitate screen sharing, monitor for Zoom-bombing, mute and unmute participants, and end the meeting. Please talk to a GEPL Librarian at 331-251-8609 or email reference@gepl.org if you have questions about this new service.

Placing Holds on GEPL Materials

If you are a Glen Ellyn Public Library cardholder, you may place holds on up to five (5) items owned by the Glen Ellyn Public Library. We will use the email or phone number on your account to notify you when the requested items are ready to be picked up at the drive-up window. To ensure that you receive notifications, please verify the email address on your account. You may also place holds by contacting the library.

Expedited Returns

Staff are available in the library parking lot to accept returns from your vehicle. Returns will not be accepted at the drive-up window or in the drive-up book drop. You can return items to the external book drop near the parking lot exit any time. Returns will be stored in PODS for seven days before they are checked in.

Cafe Curbside Service

The Cafe is offering curbside service in the library parking lot.

Computer and Printer Access

Weather permitting, two computers with printers are available just outside the library entrance.

Due Dates

Items checked out after May 19 have a loan period of four weeks, regardless of material type, and will renew up to five times.

Safe Handling of Library Materials

Library staff wear masks and practice current CDC hand washing guidelines when handling library materials. We note the date and time materials were last handled on items picked up at the drive-up window.

A study published in the New England Journal of Medicine on March 17, 2020 showed that COVID-19 will persist on cardboard surfaces for 24 hours and on plastics like Mylar-covered books, CDs, and DVDs for up to 72 hours.

Time is the best disinfectant.
