A QR (quick response) code is a type of matrix barcode. You can use a smartphone camera or a QR code reader app to scan the code, which will navigate to a URL.
QR Codes have been around much longer than I thought – since 1994. Years ago, they were quite the craze, and then they went away. With the pandemic, they’ve made a big comeback, and are now used to access hands-free menus at some restaurants.
Here at the library, we are using QR codes to provide reading suggestions.
On the glass wall of The Middle (which is my temporary office), we have displayed six images of book covers with QR codes that, when scanned by a QR code reader, will take you to 30 second YouTube videos where I rave about the books!
I hope to add additional suggestions to the collection – with your help! Wouldn’t it be great to watch middle school students talk about their favorite books? Me giving suggestions is one thing, but think about how inspired students would be to see and hear about other students’ favorites! Now that’s what I hope to see in 2021!
Please let me know if you’re interested in adding suggestions to the collection!
Thanks for reading and see you next time!
