In Solidarity with our Asian American and Pacific Islander Community

The Glen Ellyn Public Library recognizes that the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community has been deeply impacted by recent events. While this week’s attacks are still under investigation, the spread of hate speech and violence against AAPI individuals, especially during the pandemic, is undeniable. We stand in solidarity with AAPI individuals and firmly denounce all forms of racism.

At the heart of our library mission is a unique responsibility to dispel misinformation and provide access to factual, credible resources. We continue to encourage and facilitate dialogue about the harmful stereotypes that have historically and disproportionally affected the AAPI community and all people of color, as well as how to eliminate those stereotypes.

We remain committed to our diversity, equity and inclusion work that began in January as we continue to look critically at our library practices, services, and materials. As we strive to create an atmosphere of courtesy, respect, and dignity for our staff and public each day, we call on the Glen Ellyn community to do the same.
