2014 Suggestions and Comments

December 2014 Suggestions

518. You must find more room for children’s activities. We tried all 3 days to participate in the children’s holiday craft program. Even getting to the library ½ hour earlier and could not participate. Heartbroken children, hard to commit to doing future events at the Library if always full. We pay too much for library for this.

We do need more space for our children’s programs, we could not agree more. With a larger room we can accommodate a greater number of children at each program. We are happy to announce that in the Fall of 2015 we will begin renovations to the Youth area of the library and one of the things we will be doing is increasing the size of the program space, so that we can allow larger numbers of children to attend.

519. Please get Caillou’s Holiday Movie. The full length feature film.

We will place an order.

520. It would be lovely to have a café upstairs in adult area to enjoy a coffee with a book.

Please feel free to bring a covered beverage from home or the local coffee shop into the library. When we remodel the checkout and meeting room area on the 1st floor in 2016 we hope to include a small café area.

514. ________ is such a lovely librarian. She gave me extra info. On parking in case the lot was full, but she always goes above and beyond for us. Thanks!

Thank you for taking the time to share this lovely compliment. It will be shared with both the staff member and their supervisor.

515. I am very impressed with the library’s storytime and smart starts programs. The most essential element to both programs is ____. She learns all the children’s names and is great at keeping the attention of all the kids. My five year old daughter says her favorite part of smart starts is making a crafts to bring home.

We are so happy to hear that both you and your daughter enjoy the Storytime and Smart Starts programs. Your compliment will be shared with both the staff member and her supervisor.

Thank you for your suggestions. These titles will be added to the collection.

517. The Glen Ellyn Public Library has been one of the highlights of my maternity leave with my 2nd daughter. The environment was safe for an infant and stimulating for a two year old. We are delighted to hear that we were able to serve you during this time. Your kind words will be shared with both the staff members and their supervisor.

509. I liked Spookey Science because I like when it showed creepy things on the walls. Thanks for offering cool programs!

We are so happy you enjoyed the program.

510. I would be interested in story time in Spanish. The Instituto Cervantes of Chicago might be interested in offering someone to conduct it on a regular basis if there is interest here in the suburbs.

Thank you for the suggestion. We will consider it.

511. Please consider extending due dates for audio books with 20 CD’s or more to six weeks.

We will take your idea under advisement.

512. It would be great to not have audio and playaways on bottom shelf. I need to hang on case to pull myself up.

We will take a look at this — perhaps a stool to sit on might make things easier.

513. The website does not calculate overdue fines in a way that’s helpful to patrons. It only registers fines AFTER books are returned! So… if I have overdue books and want to know how much I’ll be paying in fines, I don’t know based on the website.

Yes, that is true the current software does not keep a running tally, instead the program is written to total once it knows the number of days after the due date the item was returned. We will send your suggestion to the software developer.

504. As a parent, I think the arcade should be moved back to the kids section. My kids and others played it often. I feel that the teens don’t use it. They study instead, which is a very good thing. They should not be distracted. Thank you!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. We will consider your suggestion.

505. The new media room could include equipment to convert vinyl records and cassettes to Cd or digital format.

August 2014 Suggestions

501. The children’s floor is too loud and in some cases out of control. There has to be some kind of order so that the kids that truly want to do homework or read have some kind of peace.

Coming soon the Youth Program Room will be open in the afternoons for quiet reading and/or study.

502. Buy more large print books please and save the old ones!!

We purchase new large print titles regularly. If there is a particular title or author you are interested in, please let us know.

503. It would be great if you could obtain some puzzles and simple math games for older kids to check out. Scholastic has some good math games (addition and subtraction). Plus maybe some slightly harder jigsaws.

Thank you for your suggestion. We did just recently purchase some new games for older children that will be available for check out and use within the library. We are also considering adding a variety of different formats for check out that would be of interest to older children.

Thank you for the lovely compliment.

487. Check–out time for multi-DVD series (example Downton Abbey, Mad Men, Game of Thrones, etc.) should be longer than 1 week. *NEW* can be left on one week to speed holds/circulation.

Thank you for the suggestion, we will take this under consideration.

488. – 490. All three suggestions are asking to have time limits on the use of the computers in the Children’s area to allow all children equal opportunities to use the equipment.

May 2014 Suggestions

483. Put sign in front to say book slot.

Not sure where you would like this sign located. Currently, the outside bookdrop slot has a sign that reads “Return All Materials Here” and the inside bookdrop has a sign that reads “Return Materials Here.”

484. There should be more display cases for putting collections in, so the waiting list would be shorter. You should shorten the time you display your items to two weeks instead of one month. This would shorten the list.

Thank you for the suggestion. We will take it into consideration going forward.

485. Great Adult programming, the SBA Score, and 3D printing, were excellent. Thanks for doing that. Oh yeah the non-profit fair was great too.

March 2014 Suggestions

470. Door to the 1st stall in the men’s restroom does not latch.

Thank you for letting us know. Maintenance staff will take a look at this.

471. Parking spaces are too narrow — considering one has to get in and out w/ kids and books.

Thank you for your input. The original new parking lot design called for wider spaces — however during the permit process we had to reduce the width to 8.5 foot wide in accordance with Village Ordinance 4096.

472. Hoping you will put doors back on the Youth Department. My three year old runs out and up the stairs. Also, the sign stating no adults allowed without a child is also gone. I’m concerned with my daughter’s safety.

The doors will not be replaced. We are working on a more open concept and will eventually be redesigning the children’s area. Item 19 in the Patron Conduct Guidelines states adults (18 and over) who are not accompanied by children and who are not directly engaged in the search for or use of children’s materials will be directed to other areas of the library. The Patron Conduct Guidelines are posted in several places in the library and on the website and all staff work to enforce them.

467. Your employee___________________ called me and kept my wallet which I forgot when I was at the Library. She is so nice to do that. All my important stuff including money was in there. It is nice to know that good, honest people like her are in this world. She should be rewarded.

We are so happy that you were reunited with your wallet and all of its contents. Both the employee and her supervisor will be told of your gratitude.

468. I know this is in the future plan, however could a temporary drive-up mailbox style box drop be placed outside sooner for easier drop off access. I love my library!! Great staff.

We are pleased to hear that you like the idea of the drive-up drop off for materials. There is not a practical way to implement this on a long term basis — we will just have to wait until the remodel of that area.

469. Please buy Caillou’s Holidays DVD.

This title has been a part of our collection since 12/12/2013. If it is not on the shelf when you are looking for it — ask a library staff member to help you place a hold on it, so when it is returned you can check it out.

459. THANK YOU!! This was the most fun I’ve had in a long time & I feel like I am speaking for everyone here or at least my 4 friends. Also the librarians organizing really did an amazing job. It really let the library space shine in a whole new light, was an effortless much needed way to get some exercise and met new friends. Please do this again!! [Note was in regards to NERF Wars]

We are so happy to know that you enjoyed the event. Keep an eye out for some more fun and exciting events in the future.

460. My son is in the 2yr old storytime on Fridays. Last session the instructor incorporated music with scarf time, bubbles and toys. My son LOVED it. Would it be possible for our new instructor to incorporate more music into these points too? Thanks a bunch!

We will share your suggestion with the new instructor.

461. Friendly, educated, competent young employees knowledgeable of library movies and internet.

Your lovely compliment will be shared with both the employee and her supervisor. Thank you for sharing.

464. Please consider moving the “Outstanding Employee” Parking spot to the space opposite it on the south side. With so many high profile vehicles (SUV’s, etc.), one generally can’t see the sign until you’ve pulled in the space. If it’s on the south side, one can see the sign without obstruction as you pull around the curve. Not a big deal, but it is an annoyance.

We will consider your suggestion.

465. Parking spaces are too narrow — especially when loading up kids, books, etc.

Thank you for your input. The original new parking lot design called for wider spaces — however during the permit process we had to reduce the width to 8.5 foot wide in accordance with Village Ordinance 4096.

466. I have just had help from a wonderful person, ____________________, who looked up every possible reference for buyers and collectors of long-playing vinyl records. Her help was invaluable. You’re so lucky to have her here, and so am I.
