The Workshop: Guidelines

Access

The Workshop is available to Glen Ellyn Public Library cardholders in good standing who

• are high school age or older
• complete, sign, and file a copy of The Workshop User Agreement and Waiver and Release of Liability .

Usage

Use of The Workshop constitutes acceptance of these guidelines and The Workshop User Agreement and Waiver and Release of Liability, regardless of whether a user has signed the agreement.

Behavior

While in The Workshop, users agree to

• Comply with Glen Ellyn Public Library policies and obey local, state, and federal laws. The library reserves the right to suspend or terminate use privileges of any person in violation of library policy or local, state, or federal law.
• Immediately report issues, accidents, or injuries to staff.
• Be responsible for the storage of their own digital files and provide their own storage devices as needed.
• Ensure that when they are finished, stations are clean and any tools or accessories that were used are in their original location.
• Use one piece of equipment at a time.
• Remain with equipment and be responsible for the equipment while it runs.*

*Users of the 3D printer do not need to stay with the machine the entire print time, but they must come and set up the print job.

Other

• The Workshop is not and should not be considered a mass-production fabrication facility.
• The library cannot guarantee product quality, satisfaction, equipment availability or stability, confidentiality of design, or specific delivery times.
• The library reserves the right to refuse any material, project, or item creation request.
• Overnight storage of user materials, projects, equipment, or other personal property is prohibited.
• The library is not responsible for data loss during the creation or digitization process.
• The maximum print time for 3D print jobs is five hours. Five hours of 3D print time may require securing the first reservation of the day.
• Users who meet the Access requirements above may make one equipment reservation per week.
• Bookings are limited to the specified reservation time.
• Orders will not be taken for 3D prints.
• Library-sponsored activities, classes, and programs have priority use of the makerspace.

Materials

Provided by the Library

The library offers materials for purchase with select equipment. Materials will be sold at cost plus shipping. Material availability is not guaranteed, and prices are subject to change. The library does not offer refunds for materials used or for any remnants.

Bring Your Own

Users may bring in their own materials for use with some machines. Please see the limitations below.

Limitations

The following supplies must be purchased from The Workshop.

• 3D printer filament
• Large Format Printer printing substrates
• Sublimation Printer sublimation paper
• Mug Heat Press sublimation mugs

Additional Limitations**

• Staff must approve outside materials before they are used with the Epilog Laser and Button Maker.
• The library reserves the right to deny non-compatible materials and tools.
• Users must provide a receipt and the Material Safety Data Sheet for any purchased outside of The Workshop.

Button Maker

Only American Button Machine supplies may be used with the Button Maker.

Epilog Laser

Select items will be available for purchase for use with the Epilog Laser.

**When in doubt, staff will err on the side of caution.

Program Registration

• Available for Glen Ellyn Public Library cardholders
• May occur online, by phone, or in person
• Available for one maker program per person per month
• Begins at Noon 30 days prior to the event

For Adults and High School Students

• Program participants are subject to the Access guidelines above, including having a signed copy of The Workshop User Agreement and Waiver and Release of Liability on file before entering the makerspace. Registrants without a signed copy of The Workshop User Agreement and Release of Liability on file who refuse to complete one before the program begins will not be allowed to attend even if they have a “Complete” status.
• If a program that takes place in The Workshop is full, please join the waitlist. The length of a waitlist helps the library gauge interest in programs and gather contact information in case additional sessions are possible.
• Participants whose registration status is “Complete” may enter The Workshop when the door opens five minutes prior to the program start time. Only participants whose registration status is “Complete” will be allowed entry into The Workshop. There will be no admittance day-of for either “Waitlist” registrants or walk-ins if a “Complete” registrant is not in attendance.
• The Workshop door will close five minutes after the program start time. Late participants will not be allowed to enter once the door has closed.
• Please do not attempt to attend a program if your registration status is “Waitlist.” If a seat becomes available for you, you will be notified via email that your registration status has been updated to “Complete.”

For participants younger than High School age

• Some Youth maker programs may take place in The Workshop. Participants in these programs will be accompanied by and under the supervision of library staff.
