Foundation president Gina Meyers speaks to attendees of the event

two attendees enjoy the exhibit and learn things about migration that will last a lifetimeOn Friday, July 26, Friends of the Glen Ellyn Library and the Glen Ellyn Library Foundation held an appreciation event in conjunction with the opening of the traveling World on the Move: 250,000 Years of Human Migration exhibit.

Donors, volunteers, and supporters of these organizations were invited to view the exhibit before its official opening to the public while enjoying refreshments prepared by the library’s cafe and Blackberry Market, as well as a hand-crafted “mocktail”.

Both organizations welcomed the opportunity to thank attendees for their financial support and volunteer hours, which contribute significantly toward the pursuit of their missions. Friends of the Glen Ellyn Library raises funds to supplement the library’s annual budget for materials, programs, and literacy initiatives in the local community, and the Glen Ellyn Library Foundation seeks to build an endowment that will ensure future residents of Glen Ellyn enjoy high-quality library services in a state-of-the-art facility and to fund projects that foster innovation and outreach.

Glassware for the eventIn order to support sustainability initiatives, event organizers worked in partnership with Go Green Glen Ellyn . The event eliminated single-use plastics by renting glassware and plates and serving water from a dispenser rather than individual plastic water bottles, and compostable napkins were provided and disposed of properly.

World on the Move is a traveling exhibition from the American Anthropological Association and the Smithsonian’s Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage. The exhibit is administered by the American Library Association’s Public Programs Office.
