The Glen Ellyn Public Library is proud to offer programs, materials, and services to local schools, teachers, and clubs. Our goal is to create a positive experience every time you and your students interact with the library.

Teachers are always welcome to come in and select their own materials to check out with their school library card.

The library can provide books, DVDs, periodicals and services to enhance your curriculum and supplement lessons. Please use the Classroom Collections form to make your requests. Requests are filled as time permits, so please allow five school days for processing. Requests for materials sourced from another library can take 7-10 days to process.


Classes are welcome to visit the library to attend storytimes, conduct research, take a tour, learn about library resources, or participate in special programs on request and as scheduling allows. Home daycares are encouraged to attend our regularly scheduled storytimes.

In order to ensure staff availability for a tour or program, please call and arrange your visit at least two weeks in advance so that we can give your group the time and attention it needs.

If a visit to the library isn’t possible, staff may be available to visit you and bring storytime directly to your classroom. Visits are available year round. Staff love to visit schools and homeschool groups, participate in Literacy Fairs, Open Houses, Community Services Fairs, or other events. The more notice we have, the more likely staff will be able to participate!

We have participated in stories and activities with classes in the special education department; presented to clubs in schools on topics like blogging, recycling media materials, and book recommendations; and partnering with school libraries for programs and events.

Assignment Alerts help librarians assist your students as they search for material to fulfill an assignment. Librarians want to make sure that there are enough library materials available for as many students researching the same topic as possible. If you submit an Assignment Alert, librarians will create a homework shelf of materials that stay at the library for the use of all your students. If it is possible to send a copy of the assignment, this will assist staff when putting aside materials and helping students.

Assignment Alerts can be sent by filling out the form below. Please remember that the more time and information you give, the better the selection will be.

Consider allowing your students to also gather data from one of the library’s online digital resources. Some may require a student to have a library card in order to sign in from home. Access is available to everyone when they are in the library.
