The Friends offer service opportunities for youth and adult groups
- sorting books. The Friends operate a used book sale area in the Library basement and hold public sales approximately every other month. To prepare for these sales, they have book sorts about once a week. At the sorting sessions, volunteers look through the donated items recently received and decide if and where they should be shelved. Occasionally, this time is used to organize and prepare for upcoming sales. Sorts are a great opportunity to socialize, chat about books, and help your Library. You don’t need to RSVP, just come when you can and stay as long as you like. Check in with the staff at the Library Services Desk and you will be directed down to the basement.
- preparing our community mailings. Volunteer to help the Friends send their annual mailing to community households and businesses asking for voluntary contributions, which help fund the library’s collections and typically raise more than $15,000 for the library. Fold the solicitation letter, stuff envelopes, and affix pre-printed mailing labels. Enjoy coffee, snacks, and friendly conversations. Volunteer for any amount of time! Stay for at least an hour and earn a free book coupon redeemable at a future used book sale.
- working at used book sales. Used book sale shifts are usually two hours and duties include cashiering, stocking bookshelves, and assisting customers.
If you are interested in volunteering, please email the Friends or contact the Library Director.
Making a monetary donation to the Friends of the Library establishes you as a member of the organization for the current calendar year. Your donation will enhance library services and provide increased resources and materials.
