Glen Ellyn Public Library welcomes vulnerable adults to use its facilities and services, and strives to provide a environment for vulnerable adults in and around the library.
A vulnerable adult is an individual age 18 or over who is unable to reasonably care for themself in an emergency situation, or is mentally or physically challenged and needs help beyond normal assistance with library services.
Vulnerable adults who can understand and follow the rules of conduct and who can care for themselves are welcomed to be in the Library unattended. Vulnerable adults will be expected to follow the rules of conduct as outlined in the Code of Conduct. They should have contact information for a parent/guardian or caregiver who can assist them in an emergency.
Vulnerable adults who are unable or unwilling to care for themselves must be attended and have adequate supervision at all times
Library staff will attempt to contact a parent, guardian, or caregiver when an individual’s health or safety is in doubt, behavior has caused staff to ask the individual to leave the library, or a caregiver is not present at closing time. Library staff may also contact law enforcement authorities if a caregiver cannot be reached.
