Randolph Caldecott Medal for the most distinguished American picture book for children

By: GEPL Staff

Every year, children’s books earn coveted nominations for the Newbery, Caldecott, and Coretta Scott King book awards. The American Library Association announces the winners at their midwinter meeting on the last Monday in January.

At the library, Youth Department staff also hotly debate picks for “Mock Caldecott Awards”. The criteria include strong literary merit, exceptional illustrations, and broad noteworthy appeal.

Glen Ellyn Public Library’s choice for best picture book of the year is Hot Dog by Doug Salati, and the American Library Association agrees !

The following books also received honors from library staff:

Berry Song by Michaela Goade
Kick Push: Be Your Epic Self by Frank Morrison
