In October 2021, the Glen Ellyn Library Foundation held a Fall Fun Fest to launch an Outreach Van Campaign to raise $80,000 for a van to serve the community beyond the library building. Shortly after Fall Fun Fest, the library received an Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) American Rescue Plan Grant that provided the additional funds necessary to purchase the van. At long last, the van has arrived!
People may have seen the Glen Ellyn Public Library – Anywhere van at storytimes, in the parking lot at the Ice Cream Social, and in the July 4th Parade!
The “green” van is fully-electric and can be charged at the library’s ChargePoint EV charging station and includes
- custom shelving
- a locking cart system
- an awning
- a lift gate
- Wi-Fi
- a power system
- cameras
The library looks forward to making connections in the community to provide access to library materials, programs, services, and technology at senior centers, schools, parks, and other locations.
Thank you to the Friends, the Foundation, the Rotary Club of Glen Ellyn, and IMLS for making this grand dream a reality!
