Whether they are learning to speak a new language to communicate with friends and family or to prepare for travel abroad, the library can help the youngest language learners develop new linguistic skills from the comfort of home or while on the go.
Little Pim
One of the library’s Digital Library offerings, Little Pim is for kids age birth-5 years! Kids can watch five-minute videos exploring basic vocabulary categories like counting, feelings, and food and beverages and learn the building blocks of a new language with the adorable panda, Little Pim, as their companion. There are 12 languages available. You can also access Little Pim through the Mango Languages: Learning app.
LOTE4Kids
LOTE4Kids is another item in the Digital Library that contains books in more than 70 world languages including Spanish, Polish, Urdu, Arabic, Gujarati, Telugu, and American Sign Language (ASL). LOTE stands for “languages other than English”. There are stories in each language and a variety of supplemental materials like vocabulary cards and comprehension quizzes.
