In October 2025, the library learned that we had received a $10,000 gift from Carnegie Corporation of New York! Carnegie encouraged libraries to use the gift to “celebrate the 250th anniversary, further their mission, and benefit their community.”
The library will use the $10,000 we received in four areas that align with our Strategic Plan.
- The library will improve existing resources by purchasing new outdoor furniture for use in the covered area on the south side of the building near The Cafe to make the area more inviting.
- To connect and share our story, the library will enhance the America250 Celebration on May 30 by hiring a silhouette artist to create cutouts in the style of 18th century of shadow portraits.
- To meet community needs by taking the library “to the people,” the library will participate in a print campaign in Metra railcars to raise awareness of the public libraries for people who ride the Union Pacific West line.
- To care for library staff, the library will purchase branded polo shirts to give employees as an option to wear at work or library events.
We are extremely grateful for the generosity of the Carnegie Corporation of New York and Andrew Carnegie for his generous gift of the first true public library for Glen Ellyn on the northeast corner of Park and Crescent!
