If you’re looking for more literacy activities while the Youth department undergoes construction this fall, take a walk, ride, or scoot down the Prairie Path to Prairie Path Park and check out our StoryWalk!
Ann Ferguson, a librarian in Vermont, developed the first StoryWalk as a way to encourage literacy and physical activity in her community. Weatherproof stands display the pages of a picture book, and readers can enjoy the story as they walk from station to station. The Glen Ellyn Public Library StoryWalk was installed in 2017 with support from Glen Ellyn Rotary Club and Glen Ellyn Park District. The display has featured 25 titles since 2017!
In September, the display will feature Let it Grow by Mary Ann Fraser. This sweet, simple story about the life cycle of a pumpkin is perfect for fall! Visiting the StoryWalk makes a great outing on its own or as a fun adventure to tag onto a visit downtown or while waiting for the train.
On Saturday, September 27, the library will host Pumpkin Stories at the StoryWalk.
If you visit the StoryWalk, take a picture with your favorite panel! Show staff at the Youth Desk your picture to sign the exclusive StoryWalk guest book and receive a special sticker!
