Kids have access to the library’s MakerBot Replicator three-dimensional (3D) printer to melt plastic filament to create paper-thin layers that build professional-quality, high-resolution 3D objects from digital designs. This service is subject to the Youth 3D Printing Policy.
Guidelines
- Users must be age 8 to 13. If you are 14 or older, please book a 3D Printer appointment in The Workshop .
- Priority will be given to Glen Ellyn Public Library cardholders.
- Youth may submit one STL file every two weeks.
- A monetary donation will be required for projects that include multiple parts, take longer than five hours to print, or require non-standard settings.
Specifications
- The 3D printer can print items smaller than 11.2″ x 6.0″ x 6.1″. Staff reserve the right to resize projects unless dimensions are specific in the request.
- Items are printed in a single color. You may submit color preferences, but filament color is based on availability.
- Staff will not remove the required supports and rafts after printing.
- Staff reserve the right to refuse print requests.
- Printing may take up to two weeks.
- The library is not responsible for failed 3D prints.
- Staff will do their best to help users create successful 3D prints.
