Youth 3D Printing

Kids have access to the library’s MakerBot Replicator three-dimensional (3D) printer to melt plastic filament to create paper-thin layers that build professional-quality, high-resolution 3D objects from digital designs. This service is subject to the Youth 3D Printing Policy.

Guidelines

  • Users must be age 8 to 13. If you are 14 or older, please book a 3D Printer appointment in The Workshop .
  • Priority will be given to Glen Ellyn Public Library cardholders.
  • Youth may submit one STL file every two weeks.
  • A monetary donation will be required for projects that include multiple parts, take longer than five hours to print, or require non-standard settings.

Specifications

  • The 3D printer can print items smaller than 11.2″ x 6.0″ x 6.1″. Staff reserve the right to resize projects unless dimensions are specific in the request.
  • Items are printed in a single color. You may submit color preferences, but filament color is based on availability.
  • Staff will not remove the required supports and rafts after printing.
  • Staff reserve the right to refuse print requests.
  • Printing may take up to two weeks.
  • The library is not responsible for failed 3D prints.
  • Staff will do their best to help users create successful 3D prints.
